Primary School PE and School Sport Premium Funding
The government is determined to secure a significant and lasting legacy from the very successful 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games that were held in London. In April 2013, the Government announced new funding for physical education (PE) and sport; Glen Park Primary will receive approximately £20,000 in the 2023-2024 academic year. Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
In planning the allocation of this grant, Glen Park Primary has consulted the following Ofsted documents:
“Beyond 2012 – outstanding physical education for all.”
“Inspecting primary school PE and school sport: new funding.”
Below is a summary of ways in which this funding is allocated at Glen Park Primary alongside an evaluation of the impact that it has had upon our pupils lifestyles and health and well-being. Please click on the link below to access these documents:

School Sport Funding Plan 2023-2024
The information below is reflective of how Glen Park Primary School spent their Primary PE and Sport Premium awarded in the academic year 2023-2024.The key areas that we have identified are based on the following vision and objective set by the Government; Department for Education Vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium
- All pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
This is broken down into 5 key areas that we look to address through how we to inform our decisions on how to spend the funding and to help us to assess the impact on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment. These are:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
- The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
The purpose of our PE curriculum
At Glen Park Primary School we recognise the importance of PE and Physical Activity and it is an integral part of our curriculum.
- We intend to offer a curriculum that allows all children to be inspired to lead healthy, physically active lives, both now and in the future.
- We believe that physical education is a vehicle for children to develop physically, socially, creatively, personally and cognitively. Therefore, we believe that our children should be physically active every day, whether through daily physical activity, P.E. lessons, breaktimes or extra-curricular activities.
We fully adhere to the aims of the National Curriculum for physical education to ensure that children will be taught from the early years to develop a foundation of fundamental skills that allow children the basic skills to become physically literate. As they progress through the school, these fundamentals will be essential to their continued development through a broad range of sports and activities that we offer
By the end of Year 6, all children will have attended swimming lessons; learnt a range of strokes, safe self-rescue and be able to confidently swim a minimum of 25m. Where possible, physical activity will be present in wider areas of the curriculum to re-enforce the importance of physical health and wellbeing.
We are delighted to have been awarded with the School Games Gold Mark for the past three years in recognition of our high quality provision and commitment to and the development of competition, school sport and physical education.
